Chris Greeley, Riot Games' Global Head of LoL Esports, confirmed in a March 16th interview that the 2025 League of Legends (LoL) World Championship will feature a massive $5 million prize pool. This marks a significant increase from the $2.225 million awarded in 2024. Additionally, Greeley noted that teams could earn even more through bonuses tied to merchandise revenue.
As the pinnacle of the LoL esports season, Worlds continues to set new milestones. The 2024 edition broke viewership records, drawing 6.94 million viewers for the Grand Final between Bilibili Gaming and champions T1. With this year’s boosted prize pool, Worlds 2025 is poised to reach even greater heights.

Riot has also announced format changes for the upcoming tournament, reducing the number of participating teams from 20 to 17. The event will take place in China across October and November.
Before then, fans can look forward to the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), the second major international event of the year. Scheduled for June 27th to July 12th in Vancouver, Canada, MSI will feature 10 teams competing for a $2 million prize pool.
The first cross-regional competition of the season, the First Stand Tournament, wrapped up last weekend. The newly introduced event showcased a $1 million prize pool and debuted Riot’s innovative ‘Fearless Draft’ format.
