Pocketpair provided an update regarding the ongoing patent infringement lawsuit filed against them by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo. The companies are seeking 10 million yen (approximately $66,000 / £50,000) in damages, which will be split between them, as well as additional fees for late payment.

This follows a lawsuit filed on September 19, 2024, in which The Pokémon Company accused Pocketpair of infringing on several of their patents with Palworld, a game developed by Pocketpair.

The lawsuit claims that Palworld infringed on multiple patent rights held by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. However, the specific patents involved have not been publicly disclosed. Industry experts speculate that one of the patents in question may be related to the game mechanic of throwing an item to catch a monster, a feature that is present in Palworld and could be similar to mechanics in Pokémon games.
