Team Liquid Acquires Team Gullit

Mergers and Acquisitions

09 May 2025 13:07

Team Liquid has officially acquired Dutch esports organization and renowned Team Gullit for an undisclosed fee, further solidifying its position in the competitive EA FC (formerly FIFA) scene. As part of the acquisition, Team Gullit's players will transfer to Team Liquid’s roster, while its staff will continue operations under the new ownership.

Founded in 2018 by legendary Dutch footballer Ruud Gullit, Team Gullit has become one of the most respected names in competitive EA FC. The organization is widely recognized for producing top-tier talent, including several eChampions League and World Cup winners. It also gained prominence as the world’s first independent EA FC academy, with a mission centered on scouting young talent and providing educational support, rather than acquiring established stars.

With the acquisition, Team Gullit co-founder Corné Dubelaar will step down from his day-to-day role managing the EA FC team. However, he will remain involved as an advisor to Team Liquid, offering strategic insights as the transition unfolds.

Team Liquid will also take over Team Gullit’s headquarters in Alkmaar, Netherlands, turning it into an additional operational hub for the organization. The EA FC division will receive continued support from existing partners such as SAP and Alienware, focusing on scouting, training, and developing the next generation of EA FC champions.

The acquisition follows the two organizations' collaboration during last year’s Esports World Cup, where Team Gullit player Manuel Bachoore reached the Top 8 in the EA FC competition. His performance helped Team Liquid secure a second-place finish in the Club Championship and earn $4 million (~£3 million) in prize money.

The strategic move also aligns with the updated format of the 2025 Esports World Cup, which mandates that all points earned in the Club Championship be under a single organization’s name to be eligible for the cumulative $27 million (~£20.3 million) prize pool. By acquiring Team Gullit, Team Liquid ensures it can compete in the EA FC tournament and collect vital points toward the championship.
