To mark the 12th anniversary of the Payday franchise, Starbreeze has launched a new subscription service for Payday 2, giving players a fresh way to access the game's extensive library of downloadable content (DLC).

Unveiled on September 24, 2025, the subscription offers access to all available Payday 2 DLCs for a monthly fee of $4.99 or a discounted six-month rate of $19.99. The service is now available via Steam and can be cancelled at any time, offering what the company describes as a “cost-effective” way to explore the game’s vast back catalogue.

"With more than a decade of content behind Payday 2, we want to give players greater flexibility in how they experience the game," said Gustav Nisser, head of commercial at Starbreeze Entertainment.

"The subscription service makes it simple and cost-effective to enjoy everything Payday 2 has to offer – whether you're new to the game or returning to explore DLCs you haven't yet played.

"At the same time, all existing DLCs remain available for purchase as before. This is about giving players more choice."

The announcement comes just weeks after Starbreeze published its financial results for Q2 2025 and the first half of the year. Despite reporting a 64% rise in quarterly profits, the company still posted a loss of SEK 25.4 million (approximately $2.66 million).

While Payday 2 and Payday 3 both saw year-over-year sales declines for the quarter, cumulative sales for the first six months of 2025 were up for both titles. However, third-party publishing revenue continued to struggle. In the earnings report, Starbreeze CEO Adolf Kristjansson highlighted that this segment, while resource-intensive, wasn’t delivering the impact the company had hoped for.
