According to recent reports, the upcoming Battlefield game, which will be set in the years 2023 to 2025, is adopting a "back to its roots" approach, featuring 64-player matches and a return to the original four-class system. Notably, Ripple Effect Studio is reportedly working on a free-to-play Battle Royale title.

Reports suggest that Electronic Arts wants to launch a Battlefield title alongside a Battle Royale companion game. Rumors claim that the Battlefield game will include two main modes: Battle Royale and Gauntlet. In Gauntlet mode, players will engage in objective-based missions
